Party On in Star Trek Costumes

June 24, 2010

A funny Star Trek video surfaced on the internet back in April. It features a compilation of clips from the original Star Trek episodes set to the tune of Ke$sha’s hit song Tik Tok. Whether you have a love or hate relationship with the song, you are sure to appreciate how nicely it compliments this sci-fi music video comedy making it all the more goofy. It features some of our favorite sci-fi characters in uniform from the original Star Trek series such as McCoy, Scotty, Kirk, Spock, Uhura and Sulu. Any Trekkie will find themselves enjoying some of their favorite scenes of the Enterprise crew partying on board the Enterprise. Between the dancing, fighting and dressing up, you’ll find a grin across your face as this short clip brings out the Star Trek fan in you!

Spotlight Photoshoot: Tinkerbell Sexy Fairy Costume

The Place Between Sleep and Awake - Tinkerbell Costume

Character: Tinkerbell Sexy Fairy Costume

Model: April Buyer
Photographer: Tim Vo
Location: Los Angeles, CA

There are so many fantasy themed events happening this summer. On June 11th, the new Disney’s World of Color premiered its nighttime light and water show at California Adventure. Universal Studios is giving us the grand opening of the Wizardry World of Harry Potter amusement park on June 18th. In mid-July, the two-day masquerade ball, Labyrinth of Jareth, in Los Angeles will bring us a world of Venetian histories, Celtic faerie and goblin lore.

I felt it would be the perfect time to feature a spotlight on a sexy fairy costume. This little fairy with a big attitude needs no introduction. You can fly with the sprinkle of her pixie dust and feel her jealous wrath if you mess with her man. I’m sure you have guessed it. I am happy to introduce our sexy Tinkerbell Fairy Costume based on her character from Disney’s 1953 classic film, Peter Pan.

Rumor has it that Tinker Bell was modeled after Marilyn Monroe, but the animator referenced actress Margaret Kerry. She is generally illustrated as a young female with blonde hair and blue eyes complete with an exaggerated hour-glass figure. No wonder the Tinkerbell fairy costume is one of our most popular choices amongst customers.

Faith, Trust & Pixie Dust - Tinkerbell Fairy Costume

April Buyer was excited for the opportunity to portray this timeless character in our Tinkerbell sexy fairy costume. “I was trying to capture the magical nature of this pretty fairy,” she said after the photo shoot with photographer, Tim Vo. He confirmed she did it very well and revealed that many kids had even waved out their windows as they drove by the set location. This kind of response confirms that not only does our Tinkerbell fairy costume look authentic, but April did capture the magical nature of the Disney fairy.

Photographer Tim Vo worked some magic of his own as he shot at a Los Angeles, California location. He had a vision of this fantasy character in a forest backdrop that offered trees, flowers and plenty of green plants all around to give it that magic nature of faeries. He transformed this Tinkerbell fairy cosplay into a very beautiful collection of Tinker Bell photos.

Our sexy Tinkerbell fairy costume includes a green mini dress with elastic straps, clear pixie wings and a fairy wand. April used a blonde costume wig pulled into a bun updo to stay true to the pixie’s hairstyle and she made her own Tinker Bell shoes. Tutorial: How to Make Tinkerbell Slippers

June 14, 2010

Written by April Buyer

Every pixie has to have a cute pair of slippers to go with her already gorgeous outfit, right? Well in just a few short and simple steps, you will have a pair of slippers that look just like Tinkerbell’s shoes! Now it is time to learn how to make your very own Tinker Bell slippers!

First off, you will need a few things:

  • A pair of slip on slippers
  • Some green fabric. (You will need about a yard).
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue and hot glue gun
  • (2) large-sized, white puff pom-poms (You can find them at any craft store! They usually come in a pack of 4.)

1. Now, this may all seem sloppy at first, but the end result is very beautiful. So don’t get frustrated! You are going to heat up your glue gun of course. While you are waiting for that, put one of the slippers on your foot. Then, take the fabric and lay it on top of your toe. Now there’s two ways you can go around this. One way is to take your hot glue gun and glue the fabric to the slipper and then just cut the excess fabric off. Then, you would take the fabric and cut out a large “U” shape and then glue it around the heel of your slipper and cover the rest. OR you can cut a hole into the fabric (Leave enough room around the hole to cover your shoe with). Stick your foot through the hole and then put your foot into the slipper and glue the fabric down that way. This is the method I used.

2. So you have your fabric over your slipper and your foot in the slipper. What you’re going to do is start by gluing the fabric to the TOE of your slipper. Then go to the outside of your foot, and glue the fabric over that side. Be sure to smooth it out as you go. Don’t worry if you have more than enough fabric bunching up at your heel. We will get to that bit later. After the outside, you’re going to start gluing the fabric on the other side. Continue to smooth the fabric out as you go along.

3. You’re going to end up with some fabric left over in the back. This is easily fixed. What you’re going to do is pull the excess fabric out and then fold it towards the inner side of your foot (The side of your foot with your big toe). Then you’re going to hot glue that down. Don’t worry about the seam! Every shoe has one. And since it’s on the inner side, it won’t show in any photos!

4. Now it’s time to get your foot out of there. VERY CAREFULLY cut a line from the hole that you made towards your toes. REMEMBER! Don’t cut into the slipper! Just cut far enough to where you can fold the fabric into the slipper (meaning under the top). You will do this again and make a “+” shape around the hole you cut into the fabric. Then you will cut the four pieces in half. You will end up with 8 flaps around your slipper.

5. It is now safe to take your foot out. Next step is to simply glue those flaps into the slipper! Simply fold them down and glue.

6. Almost done! Now it is time to cut the excess fabric around the slipper. Be sure to leave a good half inch as you cut the rest of the fabric away from the slipper. Then, put your slipper back on your foot and carefully snip lines around the slipper and simply glue them to the bottom.

7. Last and not least, the white pom-pom! Put a lot of hot glue on the toe of the slipper. Be sure it’s not at the very edge of your slipper; you want to see a bit of green on the toe! Then press down on it for a couple seconds. Make sure the pom-pom is secure before you take your foot out of the slipper.

Viola! You now have your very own, special pair of Tinkerbell slippers!

Something big is happening at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. On June 18, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter resort will be revealed and opened to the public. This grand opening will allow people to pass through the barrier walls and into J.K. Rowling’s world of fantasy. Guests will be free to wander the Harry Potter amusement park exploring locations from the movie including the flagship attraction, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

When you first enter the school, the queue wanders visitors through insanely themed environments. The Hogwart’s School students and teachers welcome visitors to their halls while Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley plan to sneak you to a Quiditch match. After hearing the plan, Professor Dumbledore welcomes you in one of the most elaborate rooms in the attraction. You’ll love the special effects of the Dark Arts Classroom, the Fat Lady which guards the door to the Gryffindor house and the animatronic sorting hat which gives you a brief rundown on how to board and what to do.

You then board an empty school bench to head to the Quiditch match. Hermoine appears above you and casts her flying spell on the bench. Your bench comes to life and you are lifted up as you continue on into your forbidden journey. You’ll be dodging a dragon, escaping dementors and fighting off the Womping Willow. The end result is an immersive world of believable reality. Islands of Adventure now can boast about the two bets theme park attractions in the world, hands down.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will reveal its amusement theme park to the muggles in a grand opening on June 18th. Not only will visitors be able to explore the school, but they will be able to wander the stores of Hogsmeade and enjoy the rides ‘Flight of the Hippogriff’ and ‘Dragon Challenge’. There will be a place to dine at ‘Three Broomsticks’. It is believed that Universal has created the single best theme park attraction in the world.

We carry a large variety of Harry Potter Halloween costumes and costume accessories. Time to plan a trip to Universal Orlando for a family vacation. Pack your Harry Potter costume, Gryffindor robe, wizard hand and magic wands. It is time for a vacation you will never forget!
